Installation and Securing your child

Can I also use this seat without the base?

This is a multi-mode car seat and does not feature a detachable base

Where can I check to make sure my car seat is installed properly?

CYBEX recommends getting your car seat installation checked by a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. At CYBEX we have certified car seat technicians available to assist you though our customer service team at ParentLink at 1-877-242-5646 or info.us@CYBEX-online.com. We also have virtual appointments available at https://CYBEX.appointlet.com/.

Is it safer to use lower anchors or the vehicle's seat belt?

The safest installation method is the one that allows you to install the car seat correctly. Either method, if used in accordance with the car seat owner's manual and vehicle's owner’s manual requirements, provides protection. The car seat has been tested to meet safety standards installed by either method. Most car seats have lower anchor weight limitations, so please refer to your car seat owner's manual for those specific limitations.

How do I know if I have LATCH available in my vehicle to install the car seat?

Most U.S. vehicles manufactured on or after September 1, 2002, are equipped with LATCH. Refer to your vehicle owner’s manual under the Child Restraints section to confirm and see where your latch connections are.

What is the difference between Rigid Latch vs Flexible Latch?

Flexible lower anchor connectors are connected to each other with flexible webbing. Rigid lower anchor connectors are rigidly attached to the car seat shell or car seat base and there is no flexible webbing. Rigid lower anchor connectors are spaced exactly 11 inches apart to correspond with the standard spacing of lower anchors in the vehicle. CYBEX allows flexible lower anchors to be used with spacing between 11 - 20" apart and given the vehicle manufacturer allows this use.

When should I use the tether on this seat?

We recommend using the Tether in both Rear-Facing and Forward-Facing modes when installing the seat in your vehicle. A tether is a critical safety feature that reduces movement in a crash, providing stability and reducing the risk of serious head and neck injuries for the child.

If no tether anchor is available, can the seat still be used?

Yes, the seat passes federal safety tests with and without the use of tether, however a tether is a critical safety feature that reduces movement in a crash, providing stability and reducing the risk of serious head and neck injuries for the child.

In booster mode can you use both tether and lower anchors to secure the seat in the vehicle?

Yes, you can use both lower anchors and Tether to secure the car seat to the vehicle seat while used in Booster mode.  This helps to secure the seat to the vehicle and can prevent it from becoming a projectile in a crash when unoccupied. The child will use the vehicle lap and shoulder belt while riding in the seat.

Can I use a rolled towel or pool noodle under the base of my car seat to achieve the correct recline angle?

In some vehicles, it may be hard to achieve the proper recline angle even when your car seat is in the most reclined position. If you cannot achieve proper recline for rear-facing children without adequate head and neck control, you can use a rolled towel, solid pool noodle, or CYBEX foam block accessory beneath the car seat base. Make sure the car seat is set in an appropriate rear-facing recline position and then add the rolled towel, solid pool noodle, or CYBEX foam block accessory. For additional details or to obtain the CYBEX foam block accessory, please refer to your product instructions or contact our customer service team.

Safe Travel

What kind of clothing should my child wear when seated in the car seat?

Thick clothing prevents the harness from lying snugly against the body. This incorrect harness use results in a loose or slack harness which in turn reduces the performance of the child restraint in crashes. Also, in everyday use, the loose harness could result in the harness slipping off the child's shoulders. For this reason, your child should wear everyday clothing. Thick clothing, such as puffy jackets, should not be worn in the car seat. In cold weather, after your child has been harnessed in the car seat, their jacket or a blanket can be placed over the child for extra warmth.

Can I use this seat on a flight?

Yes, this seat is approved for use on an airplane according to the requirments of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA recommends that you secure your child for air travel in an appropriate Child Restraint based on your child's weight and size. Turbulence can happen with little or no warning. When turbulence occurs, the safest place for your child is in a properly installed Child Restraint instead of in an adult's lap or on the aircraft seat with its seat belt. Keeping your child in a Child Restraint during the flight will help ensure your family arrives safely at your destination. Please contact your airline before departure to make sure this restraint meets their requirements. Always refer to your Child Restraint owner's manual for aircraft installation.

Can I install this seat with both the LATCH and the vehicle seat belt?

You MUST NEVER use the vehicle seat belt and the LATCH installation methods at the same time. The two installation methods could put too much stress on the wrong part of the seat and cause breakage or incorrectly distributed crash forces. Only one installation method should be used. LATCH installation has a max child weight limit of 30 lbs rear-facing, and 35 lbs forward-facing. Using the vehicle seat belt is the preferred installation method.

Usage

Is it ok to keep using my CYBEX car seat after an accident?

We at CYBEX always ADVISE that you MUST replace a child restraint after a crash of any kind, even if it was unoccupied.  A crash can cause unseen damage to the child restraint that may not be visible, and this damage can pose an increased risk to safety.  Your insurance company may be able to provide some assistance in replacing the child restraint.  For more info, please reach out to our Customer Service team at info.us@cybex-online.com or by calling 1-877-242-5676.

When can I place my child in a booster seat?

There are a number of things to consider when deciding whether to a child is ready to use a booster seat, including: the weight and height rating on their current harnessed child seat, the child's own weight and height, their maturity, and the seating positions available in your vehicle.   You will want to make sure your child is mature enough to sit in a booster seat and not put the vehicle belt under their arm or behind their back.  You will also want to ensure that they have met or are approaching the weight or height limit of the child restraint they are currently using.  When a child is properly restrained in a booster seat, their risk of injury in all types of crashes is reduced.

How long should I keep my child rear facing for?

The head of a young child is large and heavy in proportion to the rest of their body and their neck is relatively weak. A rear-facing child restraint supports the head, neck, and spine, and therefore may help reduce the risk of serious injury. We recommend keeping your child rear facing in a properly installed car seat as long as possible, until they reach the highest weight or maximum height allowed by the seat in the rear-facing position.

What are the lowest and highest harness heights?

Lowest harness height 7.4 inches and highest harness height is 19.1 inches.

Does the seat have to be locked in RF or FF to drive even when not occupied by the child?

Yes, never leave the empty child restraint in the sideways load/unload position.  The restraint must always be rotated and locked in either rear-facing or forward-facing modes, even when not occupied.

Can an inflatable seat belt be used with this seat?

No, you cannot use this child restraint with inflatable seat belts.

Can this seat be installed in an aircraft?

Yes, however when you route the lap belt, it goes over the top of the SafeLock belt tensioner, not under it as you would in a vehicle. Unfasten SensorSafe Chest Clip during Taxi, Takeoff, and Landing. The SensorSafe Chest Clip may be refastened during flight or once the plane has safely landed and the use of electronic devices is permitted by the flight crew.

Can I use the Canopy in Booster Mode?

No, the canopy must be removed while used in booster mode.

When I convert to booster, where can I store the unused components?

Store Harness Buckle and Strap on underside of the Base (see pgs. 35-36 of the manual). Store Harness Straps, Shoulder Pads, and Harness Buckle Tongues inside the side wings, underneath the Seat Cover. The Harness Adjuster Strap may be folded over and tucked into the Adjuster Strap Opening while in Booster Mode.

Functionality

If the shoulder belt clip on the side of the base is not used or breaks, is that okay?

Yes, the clip is intended to keep little feet from getting behind the shoulder strap, but the vehicle shoulder belt should also be locked to prevent this as well.
